The Escort of Ford of Europe was the small family car that carried the nameplate across the Atlantic from Britain and Germany for thirty six years, replacing the Anglia in 1968 and giving way to the Focus after 1998. It was offered as saloons, hatchbacks, estates, vans and convertibles, started life with rear wheel drive and moved to front wheel drive in 1980, and was for long stretches the best selling car in Britain. It is kept apart from the unrelated North American Escort, which has its own page. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 6 generations: the Mk1 (1968 to 1974); the Mk2 (1975 to 1979); the Mk3 (1980 to 1985); the Mk4 (1986 to 1989); the Mk5 (1990 to 1994); the Mk6 (1995 to 2004).
