1996 Ford Escort (Europe)

Automobiles

In June 1996 the RS2000 ceased production and became the last Escort to wear the RS badge, which did not reappear until the Focus RS of 2002. The Escort RS Cosworth also ended production in 1996. A new Ghia X model, introduced around 1996, brought air conditioning and a six CD changer as standard. South America received the front end of the European facelift but kept its older rear, and the XR3 name was dropped for the Escort Racer.
