The first generation began production in January 1998 for the 1999 model year, with the F-250, F-350 and F-350 chassis cab and the new F-450 and F-550, in a design based on the 1997 Powerforce concept. It was refreshed for 2005 with a 24 valve V8 and a Navistar diesel, and also served as the base of the Excursion. Its model years run from 1999 to 2007. The Super Duty is a dedicated heavy duty variant of the F Series, sold above the F 150 with Power Stroke diesel engines as an option.
