The Super Duty went into production in January 1998 for the 1999 model year, after a 1998 gap, with the F 250 and F 350 pickups, the F 350 chassis cab and the new F 450 and F 550. It was based on the 1997 Powerforce concept, and it was a dedicated heavy duty variant of the F Series. Ford assembles the trucks at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake. The Super Duty is a dedicated heavy duty variant of the F Series, sold above the F 150 with Power Stroke diesel engines as an option.
