The RL was Acura's flagship sedan for the 1996 to 2012 model years, two generations of the car that Honda sold in Japan as the Legend. It replaced the Acura Legend when Acura moved away from names toward letter codes, and its name stands for Refined Luxury. The first generation was a V6 front-drive sedan carried on until 2004, while the second added Super Handling All-Wheel Drive for 2005 and a larger engine in a 2009 update. The RLX took over as flagship for 2014. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation (1996 to 2004 model years); the second generation (2005 to 2012 model years).
