The 2002 3.5RL gained painted lower trim and mudflaps, redesigned seven-spoke alloy wheels and a sportier suspension with new springs, dampers, larger solid sway bars and new front upper control arms. A dual-diaphragm brake master cylinder cut pedal effort, the ABS became four-channel at all times, and a new variable muffler lifted engine output to 225 horsepower. OnStar became standard equipment on the RL for this model year.
