The 1997 RL carried on as the 3.5RL, with the 3.5 litre C35A V6 that sat lengthways in the engine bay, a balance shaft to reduce vibration, and forged crankshaft and connecting rods built by a new block-forging process. The four-speed automatic with Gradelogic was standard on every trim, and the car kept its double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension. The sources used for this page record no change specific to this model year.
