The first-generation Acura NSX was Honda's answer to the Ferrari 328 and 348: a two-seat, rear mid-engine car with an all-aluminium body, a 3.0 litre VTEC V6 and a five-speed manual, built by hand in a dedicated plant in Japan. Acura dealers started selling it in November 1990. A targa-top NSX-T replaced the coupe in North America from 1995, a bigger 3.2 litre engine and six-speed manual arrived in 1997, and fixed headlamps came with a 2002 facelift. Fewer than 20,000 were built in all.
