The NSX gained an automatic option in 1994: a four-speed SportShift transmission, also known as F-Matic, which could shift conventionally or be controlled with a fingertip lever on the steering column. This was the last year when the standard coupe was the only body offered in North America, because the targa-top NSX-T arrived in March 1995 and replaced it. Car buyers could now pick between the five-speed manual and the new automatic.
