The 1996 NSX was sold in North America as the NSX-T only, the targa-top version that had replaced the coupe the year before, with a body-colored roof rather than a black one and a lighter electric power steering rack as standard. Stiffer shock absorbers and smaller front sway bars eased the tendency of the mid-engine layout toward oversteer. The 1996 season also saw the first NSX enter Japan's GT series.
