The 1997 model year brought the NSX's biggest performance update. Manual cars gained a 3.2 litre C32B V6 with 290 horsepower in place of the 3.0 litre, along with a six-speed manual with closer ratios and bigger brake rotors, a keyless entry system and an immobiliser. Automatic cars kept the 3.0 litre engine and 252 horsepower. Japan alone received the NSX Type S, with weight-saving parts, that year.
