Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Austin is a British car marque founded by Herbert Austin at Longbridge near Birmingham in 1905. It built the Austin Seven, the car that put a whole generation of Britons on the road and that Dixi copied under licence as the first BMW, and later the A30, A35, A40 Farina, 1100, Maxi, Allegro, Metro, Maestro and Montego. Austin merged with Morris to form the British Motor Corporation in 1952 and the marque lasted under British Leyland and the Rover Group until 1987. SAIC holds the name now.
