The Mark I Austin Mini ended its run in 1967 as the Mark II Mini was launched at the 1967 British Motor Show. The Cooper S won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1967, the car's third success there, and the Mini by then had been widely hailed as an icon of the 1960s with well publicised purchases by film and music stars. The Mark I was thus replaced at the end of the year by the Mark II in the Austin range.
