Austin Mini (Mark I)

Automobiles

The Mark I was the original Mini, demonstrated to the press in April 1959 and announced to the public on 26 August 1959, sold by BMC as the Austin Seven and from 1961 as the Austin Mini. Alec Issigonis designed it after the 1956 Suez Crisis fuel shortage, with a transverse engine, front wheel drive and rubber cone suspension, replaced in 1964 by Hydrolastic. Winning the Dewar Trophy in 1959, it sold in huge numbers. Its model years run from 1959 to 1967.
