Simca

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Simca was a French car marque created in 1934 as a Fiat-backed company at Nanterre near Paris. Its early cars were French-built versions of Fiat designs, including the Simca 5 and Simca 8, and after the war it grew with the Aronde, the Vedette and the Ariane into one of the largest French makes, with the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 becoming for a time the best-selling car in France. Chrysler took control in 1963, and from 1970 the badge belonged to Chrysler Europe, sometimes as Chrysler-Simca. The 1307 won European Car of the Year in 1976 and the Horizon in 1979. Peugeot replaced the Simca badge with Talbot after it bought Chrysler's European operations in 1978. Simca models were also built in Brazil, Spain and several other countries.
