Simca Chambord

Automobiles

The Simca Chambord was a large V8-engined saloon of the French maker Simca. In the second generation of the Vedette range it took the place of the Régence at the top of the line, with a longer, more ornate body and large tailfins in the American manner. Simca do Brasil began building it in March 1959, at first from parts imported almost entirely from France, and in Brazil it became the mainstream model of the range, powered by the Ford-derived Aquilon 2.4-litre V8 that was uprated several times. About 42,910 were built up to 1966, and the later, more powerful cars reached a top speed of 160 km/h before the Esplanada replaced the Chambord in November 1966.
