The Simca 8 was a small family car that Simca built at Nanterre and sold in France from November 1937 to 1951, available as a saloon, coupé or cabriolet. It was a rebadged Fiat 508C Nuova Balilla made at Simca's plant, and at launch it used Fiat's 1,089 cc four-cylinder engine, rated at 32 PS, with an aluminium cylinder head. The name did not mean eight cylinders; it probably signified the 1938 model year. In 1938 Simca boss Henri Pigozzi staged a 50,000 kilometre endurance run with a single car, which broke eight international records on the Montlhéry circuit. Reviewers praised its lively temperament, economy and precise steering, but noted a noisy engine and front suspension that was fragile on France's unpaved rural roads.
