Simca 1000 Coupé

Automobiles

The Simca Coupé 1000 was a small, rear-engined two-door coupé that Simca produced from 1962, with bodies built in Turin by Bertone to a design by the young Giorgetto Giugiaro and final assembly at the Poissy plant. It was formally launched at the Geneva Motor Show early in 1962, homologated for production in France in November 1962, and delivered from 1963. It shared its chassis with the Simca 1000 saloon, but a lower centre of gravity and a more aerodynamic shape gave better road holding, and its 944 cc four-cylinder engine, with higher compression, gave 52 horsepower and a listed top speed of 140 kilometres an hour. The Bertone body made it costly against the Renault Floride. About 10,600 were built before a 1967 upgrade renamed it the Simca 1200S, which had a 1,204 cc engine and the radiator moved to the front; the line ended in 1971.
