CRRC Qingdao Sifang is a Chinese rolling stock manufacturer based in the port city of Qingdao in Shandong province, and one of the oldest builders of railway vehicles in China. Its roots lie in the Syfang general repair works that German authorities began building in October 1900 for the Shantung Railway, finished in 1902 near the Sifang railway station, where locomotive parts imported from Germany were assembled. The works passed through Japanese management during the First World War era and, after 1949, became the Sifang Works, which in 1952 produced China's first indigenous steam locomotive, named August 1st. It later supplied passenger cars and diesel locomotives to China Railway and widened into export markets from the 1980s. Today the company is best known for high-speed trains: the CRH2 built through a technology transfer from Japan, the CRH380A, the Fuxing family and the CR450AF prototype, together with metro trains for Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Chicago. In this atlas it is the make that groups the rail vehicles the Qingdao firm designed and built under its own name, including those made through joint ventures with Bombardier and Kawasaki.
