The Tianchi is a high-speed comprehensive dynamic inspection diesel multiple unit developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang for China Railway, with a design maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour and equipment to inspect track, signalling and the pantograph and catenary. It runs as one power car and two trailer cars with an AC-DC-AC electric transmission, in which the diesel engine drives a traction generator that feeds inverters and four asynchronous traction motors. The power car rides on SD-200 bogies, while the trailers use SW-220 bogies that Sifang and Kawasaki Heavy Industries developed jointly from the structure of the 500 Series Shinkansen. The set was delivered to the China Railway Shenyang Group in December 2005, at first as one power car and one trailer, and Sifang built an extra intermediate trailer the same year. Besides inspecting lines it serves as a special train for railway bureau leaders, and in April 2018 it made trial runs between Shenyang and Dalian with two more trailers added.
