Sri Lanka Railways S14

Passenger Rolling Stock and High-Speed Trainsets

Sri Lanka Railways S14 is a class of diesel-electric trainsets with locomotive-like power cars, built for Sri Lanka Railways by CRRC Qingdao Sifang and financed by a Chinese sovereign loan. Nine train sets were imported to Sri Lanka from 2019 to 2020, with air-conditioned first class beside second and third class accommodation, and they were ordered to run mainly on the Main Line from Colombo to Badulla and Kandy. The maiden run was made on 3 September 2019 from Ratmalana to Aluthgama. Four further power cars, designated the S14A class, were ordered for the Aruwakkalu Waste Processing Facility in Puttalam under the Metro Colombo Solid Waste Management Project. The S14 sets wear a pink, blue and white livery and the S14A power cars a green and white one.
