The first generation Sumo was launched with an option of four wheel drive and 997 cc, later 1,189 cc, three cylinder EF engines based on those of the Justy, though mounted at the rear in the van. Unusually for a microvan, the 1,200 cc car could be ordered with selectable four wheel drive operated by a button on the gear stick, and the van also carried the name Libero in Europe. Its model years run from 1983 to 1992.
