Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is a body on frame SUV that Toyota has sold since 1984. It began as little more than a Hilux pickup with a fiberglass shell over the bed and has grown into something between a compact and a mid size SUV, built in Japan at the Tahara plant and, at times, the Hino plant in Hamura. In Japan it was sold as the Hilux Surf until 2009, and it is now sold mainly in North America, Central America and some South American countries. The 4Runner was preceded by the Trekker, a camper conversion of the Hilux built by Winnebago from 1981 to 1983, which acted as a marketing test.
