In 1988 the turbocharged 22R-TE was dropped for an optional 3.0 liter V6 making 145 horsepower, the 3VZ-E, available with the SR5 trim, while the standard engine remained the 22R-E. The carbureted engine reached the end of its availability the same year. It was model year 5 of 6 in the Toyota 4Runner (first generation, N60), 1984 to 1989, coming after the 1987 model year and before the 1989 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota 4Runner run from 1984 to 2025.
