The fifth generation was unveiled at the State Fair of Texas on 24 September 2009 and went on sale months later. It was built on the same platform as the J150 series Land Cruiser Prado, the Lexus GX and the FJ Cruiser, and although it was built in Japan it was made only in left hand drive. The 4.0 liter V6 with dual VVT-i was standard, a facelift came for 2014, the TRD Pro was added for 2015, and the 4Runner stayed on sale for fifteen years, a very long run for a single generation.
