The Plymouth Horizon and Dodge Omni were the first front wheel drive Chrysler vehicles and the first American cars sold with front wheel drive and a transverse mounted four cylinder engine. They were the central model lines of the Chrysler L platform, an evolution of the Chrysler Horizon designed by Chrysler Europe, and were sold exclusively as five door hatchbacks. In contrast to most Chrysler model lines, the Plymouth Horizon outsold the Dodge Omni in most years. Its model years run from 1978 to 1990.
