The first generation was introduced in Europe in October 2002 as a commercial variant of the first generation Focus, in two wheelbases with a raised roof on the long one, replacing the Escort van and the Fiesta Courier. It was facelifted in 2006, and in 2009 came to North America with a new grille and dashboard. Its model years run from 2002 to 2012. The Transit Connect was Ford's compact panel van, developed by Ford of Europe as a dedicated commercial vehicle.
