The Transit Connect was introduced in Europe in October 2002, replacing the three door Escort van and the smaller Fiesta Courier. It was a purpose built commercial vehicle in the compact panel van form of the Opel Combo and the Renault Kangoo, and not an adaptation of a station wagon. The Transit Connect was Ford's compact panel van, developed by Ford of Europe as a dedicated commercial vehicle. It sat between the Transit Courier and the Transit Custom in the Ford Transit range.
