Renault Samsung Motors

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Renault Samsung Motors was the name under which the South Korean car manufacturer founded in 1994 as Samsung Motors traded after the French maker Renault took control of it in 2000. The Samsung Group created the company with technical assistance from Nissan and began selling cars in 1998, just before the East Asian financial crisis forced it to sell. Under the Renault Samsung name the company, based in Busan, introduced the SM3 in 2002, the SM7 in 2004 and the QM5 crossover in 2007, and over time moved its products from a Nissan-based architecture to a Renault-based one and became an export-oriented manufacturer. It adopted Renault Korea Motors as a trade name in March 2022, and in April 2024 took its present name, Renault Korea, with Renault as its brand name.
