The first generation of the Renault Samsung SM3, internally coded G10, was a compact car built by Renault Samsung Motors at Busan, South Korea, from September 2002. It was a rebranded Nissan Sunny and Bluebird Sylphy, fitted with Nissan four-cylinder petrol engines, first a 1.5 litre QG15DE and from July 2004 a 1.6 litre QG16DE after a change in Korean engine taxation. A facelift in August 2005 was sold as the SM3 New Generation. The same car was exported under other names, including Nissan Almera Classic in Russia and Ukraine and Renault Scala in Mexico, Egypt and Colombia. From July 2009 it continued as the SM3 CE with only the 1.6 litre engine, and Busan production ended in 2013.
