The third generation of the Renault Samsung SM5, coded L43, was released on 18 January 2010 and sold alongside the second generation for a time. It was based on the Renault Laguna, designed in Seoul and built at the Busan plant, with a two litre four-cylinder and a 2.5 litre six-cylinder petrol engine and a Nissan Xtronic CVT. It formed the basis of the Renault Latitude sold in Asia-Pacific and was again sold as the Renault Safrane in the Gulf States and Mexico. Facelifts followed as the SM5 Platinum in November 2012 and SM5 NOVA in January 2015, and production ended in 2019.
