The second generation of the Renault Samsung SM7, coded L47, went on sale in South Korea in August 2011. It was based on a stretched version of the third-generation SM5 and was developed by Renault Samsung's own research department over more than 32 months at a cost of about 400 billion won. It used Nissan 2.5 and 3.5 litre VQ engines with six-speed transmissions and was offered in SE, LE and RE trims. A liquefied petroleum gas version followed in August 2015, with facelifts for the 2013 model year and in September 2014 as the SM7 Nova. Production stopped in late 2019 and stock was sold by early January 2020.
