The second generation of the Renault Samsung SM3, coded L38, was unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show in April 2009 and sold in South Korea until the petrol-engined car ceased production in 2019. It is essentially a notchback saloon version of the Renault Mégane 3 with small cosmetic changes, and Renault also sold the same car as the Fluence. Over its life it received a front-end facelift for the 2013 model year in October 2012, and a further nose revision called the SM3 Neo for the 2015 model year, which aligned the look with the imported QM3. An electric version, the SM3 Z.E., was built alongside it.
