Daihatsu

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Daihatsu is a Japanese small car brand from Osaka. The business began as the engine maker Hatsudoki Seizo in 1907 and was reorganized under the Daihatsu name in 1951, building three wheeled trucks and small off road vehicles before concentrating on kei cars, kei trucks and compact cars. It began exporting in the 1960s but withdrew from Europe in 2013, and today it sells cars under its own name in Japan and Indonesia. Toyota became its main shareholder in 1967, took majority control in 1998 and made it a wholly owned subsidiary in August 2016, and many Daihatsu designs are sold as Toyotas in emerging markets.
