The Toyota MR2 is a two seat sports car that Toyota made and sold from 1984 until 2007 in three generations, and it was the first Japanese rear mid engine, rear wheel drive production car. It grew out of a 1976 Toyota design project for a car that was enjoyable to drive yet economical, took shape from 1979 and was shown as the SV-3 concept at the Tokyo show in October 1983. The name stands for Midship Runabout, two seater. The third generation was a roadster called the MR-S in Japan, the MR2 Spyder in the United States and Australia and the MR2 Roadster in Europe. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first generation, W10 (1984 to 1988); the second generation, W20 (1989 to 1999); the third generation, W30 (2000 to 2007).
