The 1997 MR2 continued as Revision 4, which had the European 3S-GE down rated to 168 horsepower due to the introduction of exhaust gas recirculation. The third generation prototype, the MR-S, appeared in 1997 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It was model year 9 of 11 in the Toyota MR2 (second generation, W20), 1989 to 1999, coming after the 1996 model year and before the 1998 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota MR2 run from 1984 to 2007.
