The supercharged MR2 reached the US in 1988, and the Australian magazine Wheels chose the 1988 MR2 as its favorite sports car. A final run of 300 fully optioned Super Edition MR2s was produced in 1988, sold only in Japan, with white and gold two tone paint and bronze glass. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota MR2 (first generation, W10), 1984 to 1988, and the Toyota MR2 (second generation, W20) came next, following the 1987 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota MR2 run from 1984 to 2007.
