Chrysler Valiant

The Chrysler Valiant was a full-size car sold by Chrysler Australia from 1962 to 1981. It began as a locally assembled Plymouth Valiant from the United States and, from the second generation of 1963, was made entirely in Australia. It was sold at home and in New Zealand and South Africa, with smaller numbers exported to South-East Asia and Britain. Chrysler invested heavily in Australian manufacturing, opening an assembly plant at Tonsley Park in 1964 and an engine foundry at Lonsdale in 1968. The range grew to include a sedan, a wagon called the Safari and, from 1965, a utility called the Wayfarer, and the 1970 VG introduced the Hemi-6 engine in place of the Slant-6.
