The Carol was a more grown up two door sedan than the R360, launched in February 1962 as the first four passenger car of Mazda, with a rear mounted water cooled 358 cc four cylinder OHV engine, a monocoque body and four wheel independent suspension by torsion bars. A four door arrived in 1963 and the larger Carol 600 ran from 1962 to 1964. The car was sold in Japan as a kei car, built to the size and engine limits of that class. Its model years run from 1962 to 1970.
