Production of the Carol continued until August 1970, by which time 265,226 Carol 360 cars had been built. Mazda did not offer a kei class passenger car for two years, until the Chantez was introduced in 1972, and the Carol name did not return until 1989, with the Autozam brand. The Carol weighed in at 525 kg, versus 380 kg for the diminutive R360. The Carol complemented the three-wheeled Mazda Mazdago. The Carol was more substantial than the R360.
