In 1968 the Carol 360 was in its seventh year, still a monocoque kei sedan weighing about 525 kg with a rear mounted 358 cc four cylinder engine, and the success of the model had made it the main Mazda kei car. It had been sold in two and four door forms, in standard and DeLuxe trims, and it faced the rivalry of the Subaru 360. The Carol was more substantial than the R360. The Carol weighed in at 525 kg, versus 380 kg for the diminutive R360.
