The Toyota Publica is a small car that Toyota manufactured from 1961 until 1978, conceived as a family car to fulfil the requirements of the Japanese government's national car concept. It was the smallest Toyota car of its period and was superseded in that role by the Starlet, which itself started out as a version of the Publica. It was available as a two door vehicle only, in a selection of body styles. The Publica Sport led to the Toyota Sports 800, and Hino and Daihatsu both built Publica based vehicles after Toyota took over Hino and started its relationship with Daihatsu. Generations with their own pages on this site: the first series, P10 (1961 to 1965); the second series, P20 (1966 to 1968); the third series, P30 and P50 (1969 to 1978).
