The R2 was the first production Subaru to carry a new family look, with an aviation inspired spread wings grille also used on the Tribeca and the Impreza. Its dimensions were similar to those of the Pleo, but with a rounded shape. In January 2005 the shorter two door R1 was added, and in November 2005 the grille was changed to one like the Legacy. Fuji Heavy Industries made the R2 for sale in Japan as a kei car. Its model years run from 2003 to 2010.
