The R2 of 2006 was in its fourth year as a kei car sold by Subaru in Japan and the first full year with the facelifted front that resembled the Legacy. It had three engine choices, a SOHC, a DOHC with variable valve timing and a supercharged DOHC, and it was sold in front or all wheel drive, as a rounded kei car beside the shorter two door R1. Fuji Heavy Industries made the R2 for sale in Japan as a kei car. The R2 was initially available in 11 colors and 3 trim levels, one for each engine variation.
