The original Duster was a Valiant from the cowl forward with a different body behind it, a semi-fastback two door roof and a plain rear valance. It was a $15 million effort to give the compact Valiant a sporty body style and was aimed at the Ford Maverick, the AMC Hornet and the Chevrolet Nova. Many trims and packages were sold, including the Duster 340, the Gold Duster, the Twister, the Space Duster and the Feather Duster. The Duster was a success, and Dodge asked for and got its own version, the Demon. Its model years run from 1970 to 1976.
