The Duster was introduced in late 1969 for the 1970 model year as a Valiant from the cowl forward with almost entirely different sheet metal behind, including a semi-fastback roof. For 1970 it came as the standard Duster and a performance oriented Duster 340, with Slant Six engines of 198 and 225 cubic inches and 318 and 340 V8 options. A Gold Duster trim package with gold badging, carpeting and a vinyl canopy roof was added at midyear.
