The Duster was not changed significantly for 1972. New surface mounted side marker lights replaced the flush mounted ones, and the taillamps became larger one piece units. The power rating of the 340 V8 fell from 275 to 245 horsepower, partly because the compression ratio was reduced from 10.2 to 1 to 8.5 to 1. The Duster was now in its third year, with the Slant Six and the 318 and 340 V8s on offer, in economy and performance variants such as the Gold Duster and the Duster Twister.
