The MX-3 was one generation of a small kammback coupe on Mazda's EC platform, which shares much with the BG platform of the Familia, 323 and Protege. It went on sale in Japan, Europe, Australia and North America, where it arrived in September 1991 as a 1992 model, with a single cam 1.6 liter four or a 1.8 liter twin cam V6 and more engines as development continued. A DOHC version of the B6 engine replaced the older one in January 1994. Its model years run from 1991 to 1998.
