In January 1994 a DOHC version of the B6 engine, the B6D, replaced the previous version in the MX-3, giving a useful power increase, but it also made the much more expensive V6 less attractive. Sales of the V6 in the United States came to an end after the 1994 model year, although they continued in Canada, Japan and many other export markets. The GS trim was sold in the United States for 1992 to 1994. The car had a 7,000 rpm redline and a quarter mile time of 16.4 seconds for the American GS.
