The first generation was styled under Chief Designer Darrell Behmer and launched for the 2006 model year as the Zephyr, shown in concept form at the 2004 New York show. It shared Ford's CD3 platform with the rebadged Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Mazda 6, was renamed MKZ for 2007, refreshed for 2010 and gained Lincoln's first hybrid for 2011. Its model years run from 2006 to 2012. It was available with gasoline and, from 2011, hybrid powertrains.
